15/ Local Administration Ministry deals with 89 reports during current weather conditions

Amman, Jan. 9 (Petra)-- The Ministry of Local Administration said that the weather depression affecting the Kingdom since Friday morning was marked by high intensity over a short period of time, affirming that coordinated efforts enabled authorities to handle 89 reports received by emergency operation rooms across various municipalities, without recording any major incidents impacting public safety.

The Ministry explained that municipalities, with direct support from Joint Services Councils and Municipal Affairs Directorates, activated emergency and proactive response plans from the very first moments of the weather event.

They maintained a high level of readiness to deal with any emergency, despite the heavy rainfall recorded over limited hours.

It added that joint coordination among the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, the Jordan Valley Authority, administrative governors, and the Civil Defense Directorate contributed to rapid field responses and the immediate handling of reports as they were received.

According to the Ministry, the reported cases mainly involved rising water levels in some streets and low-lying areas, blocked rainwater drainage channels, limited incidents of rainwater entering a number of homes, and the falling of several trees due to strong winds. All of these issues were addressed and resolved by specialized field teams.

Regarding the most affected areas, the Ministry noted that the impact of the weather depression was concentrated in municipalities across northern and central parts of the Kingdom, particularly in Irbid and Madaba governorates. Madaba recorded the highest rainfall amount at 41 millimeters, prompting intensified field efforts to reopen roads and clean drainage channels, waterways, and valleys.

As for Karak Governorate, the Ministry confirmed that field teams continue to implement long-term solutions to address affected sites in several municipalities. It noted that no significant problems were recorded during the depression, except for minor observations that were dealt with immediately.
