18/ Jordan, Türkiye Discuss Expanding Military, Defense Cooperation
Amman, Jan. 8 (Petra) -- Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti on Thursday met in Ankara with Chief of the Turkish General Staff Gen. Selcuk Bayraktaroglu. The two chiefs discussed ways to enhance military cooperation between the two countries' armed forces and exchanged views on issues of mutual interest, as well as supporting regional security and stability. Additionally, the two sides underscored the depth of Jordanian-Turkish military relations and the importance of continuing coordination and consultation in training, exchange of expertise, and raising readiness levels, in addition to developing joint mechanisms in line with evolving regional security challenges. In this context, Huneiti met with Turkish Minister of National Defense Yasar Guler to review prospects for advancing the strategic partnership between Jordan and Türkiye, particularly in defense industries, technology transfer, joint manufacturing, and national capacity building, consistent with both countries’ drive to enhance self-reliance in the defense sector. The meetings called for expanding cooperation in research and development and leveraging shared expertise in defense industries to enhance operational and technical efficiency on both sides. During his visit to Turkish defense company ASELSAN, Huneiti was briefed on the latest technologies and systems in electronics, command and control, radars, and advanced defense solutions. Huneiti also met with President of the Presidency of Defence Industries of the Republic of Türkiye Haluk Gorgun, where they discussed opportunities for cooperation, industrial integration, knowledge transfer, and expanding partnerships in defense technology and industries. Huneiti said the meetings and visits reflect the Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF)’S commitment to building high-quality, sustainable partnerships that strengthen defense capabilities, support regional security, and serve the shared strategic interests of the two countries. //Petra//NQ
