Amman, Jan 7 (Petra) - Speaker of the Lower House of Representatives Mazen Al-Qadi met with his Moroccan counterpart Rachid Talbi El Alami, Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, and Vice President of the House of Councillors Ahmed Akhchichine on Wednesday as part of an official visit to the kingdom.

The visit, which included representatives from five parliamentary blocs and came at the invitation of the Moroccan Speaker, featured the signing of a broad memorandum of parliamentary cooperation.

During separate meetings with Moroccan officials, attended by Jordanian Ambassador to Morocco Jumana Ghunaimat, Al-Qadi affirmed that the Jordanian and Moroccan kingdoms share qualities of wise leadership that have demonstrated balance and deep vision despite regional challenges. He asserted that the monarchies in both nations possess historical and religious legitimacy, maintain moderate foreign policies and active regional diplomatic presence, and are supported by established institutions and peoples who serve as models of achievement.

Al-Qadi stated that the relationship between His Majesty King Abdullah II and King Mohammed VI is solid and deeply rooted. He noted that His Majesty King Abdullah holds the historical Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and plays a key role in protecting their Arab Islamic and Christian identity. Simultaneously, King Mohammed VI exerts significant efforts in the Arab and Islamic worlds as Chairman of the Al-Quds Committee to support the holy city, providing development projects to sustain the resilience of its residents.

The speaker emphasized that Jordanian-Moroccan relations are built on mutual trust and continuous coordination, covering broad areas with harmonized views on regional and international issues. He highlighted that parliamentary cooperation constitutes a key pillar of bilateral ties through the exchange of legislative and oversight expertise. He added that the comprehensive cooperation agreement signed between the two parliaments aims to build capacities and coordinate positions within parliamentary unions to serve the two countries and Arab and Islamic causes.

Regarding the issue of the Western Sahara, Al-Qadi affirmed Jordan's position of standing by the territorial integrity of Morocco. He expressed support for resolving the issue in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions, the latest being the Security Council resolution issued in October 2025, and consistent with the autonomy initiative launched by Morocco, which represents a practical and logical solution.

Al-Qadi noted that the diplomatic roles of both foreign ministries embody the visions of their leaderships, characterized by effectiveness in managing files within a balanced strategic framework that weighs national interests against broader Arab and Islamic issues.

He also stressed the importance of enhancing economic and investment cooperation and coordinating joint efforts in Asia, Africa, and international markets, while solidifying the roles of Jordan and Morocco as models of moderation and stability.

Reviewing domestic affairs, Al-Qadi outlined the comprehensive modernization paths launched by His Majesty King Abdullah as a national project to expand popular participation in decision-making and achieve programmatic, partisan parliaments supported by women and youth.

For his part, Speaker of the Moroccan House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami said bilateral relations represent a solid model of Arab cooperation based on mutual respect and unified positions. He confirmed his country looks with great interest at developing the parliamentary partnership as a fundamental lever to deepen political and diplomatic ties. El Alami praised the wisdom of both monarchs and their shared strategic vision regarding Arab issues, primarily the Palestinian cause and Jerusalem.

Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita stated that relations are based on an advanced political and diplomatic partnership, embodied in continuous coordination between the leadership and foreign ministries. He affirmed that the monarchs lead a balanced foreign policy promoting stability, dialogue, and moderation. Bourita valued Jordan's pivotal regional role and expressed deep appreciation for Jordan's support of Morocco's territorial integrity and the autonomy initiative as the realistic solution to the Sahara issue.

Vice President of the House of Councillors Ahmed Akhchichine noted that the visit reflects deep historical ties, adding that parliamentary cooperation offers significant space for exchanging legislative expertise. He thanked Jordan for its firm stance supporting Morocco's territorial integrity.

The Jordanian delegation included MPs Ibrahim Tarawneh, head of the Mithaq Bloc, Ahmad Hmeisat, head of the Mubadara Bloc, Mustafa Amawi (Centrist Parties and National Islamic Union Bloc), Huda Naffa (Azm Bloc), and Dima Tahboub (Islamic Action Front Party Bloc).
