15/ PSD Launch Secure CCTV System to Hear Child Victims’ Testimonies
Amman, Feb. 22 (Petra) --Public Security Directorate (PSD), through its Family and Juvenile Protection Department, in cooperation with the National Council for Family Affairs, launched a closed-circuit television (CCTV) system to enable child victims, witnesses and victims of domestic violence, to give testimony "safely". The initiative is implemented in partnership with the Judicial Council and the Ministry of Justice, with support from the UNHCR. On its goals, the system reflects the directorate’s "commitment" to modernizing child protection and care services and strengthening coordination among relevant institutions to ensure a "safe and supportive" environment for children during litigation stages. The technology allows children to provide statements in a "secure" setting that addresses their psychological needs, avoids direct confrontation with the perpetrator, and reduces stress associated with court procedures, which would promote the best interests and protection of the child. Together with partner institutions, PSD noted the Family and Juvenile Protection Department, conducted specialized training programs on operating the system and linking it with the competent courts, and stakeholder units to ensure its "effective and adequate" use in judicial procedures. //Petra// NQ
