18/ Royal initiative distributes 60,000 shopping cards to needy families
Amman, February 8 (Petra) – The National Aid Fund (NAF) is distributing prepaid shopping cards to 60,000 of Jordan's poorest families as part of the Royal Initiatives marking the birthday of His Majesty King Abdullah II and the advent of the holy month of Ramadan. Each beneficiary family will receive a prepaid card valued at JD100 to purchase basic necessities from the Civil and Military Consumer Corporations at a total cost of JD6 million. The Fund had sent SMS messages to the heads of beneficiary households explaining the card collection procedures to facilitate access and ensure the smooth delivery of support. In cooperation with the Civil and Military Consumer Corporations, NAF said that all measures have been taken to enable beneficiaries, or their first-degree relatives, to collect and use the cards, ensuring the aid reaches those entitled to it. Launched in 2004, the Royal Initiative targets families selected according to clear criteria that ensure fairness and transparency, based on a computerised system and the Fund's approved database. Since 2019, the initiative shifted from in-kind assistance to shopping vouchers, enhancing flexibility and preserving the dignity of beneficiary families. //Petra// AK
