33/ Interior minister receives UN high commissioner for refugees

Amman, February 3 (Petra) – Interior Minister Mazen Faraya on Tuesday received UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) Barham Salih to discuss enhancing the voluntary return of Syrian refugees and measures to facilitate their safe return to their country.

In the meeting, Faraya and Salih called for providing the necessary support to refugees to ensure decent living conditions, as well as supporting host communities that continue to shoulder the burden of hosting refugees.

Both sides commended the level of cooperation between the Kingdom and the UNHCR and expressed their aspiration to further strengthen bilateral cooperation in the future.

Faraya highlighted Jordan's significant humanitarian role in hosting refugees and its commitment to providing them with essential services.

He pointed to the impact of hosting refugees on key sectors, including health, education, water and transport and the resulting strain on national infrastructure.

For his part, Salih expressed appreciation for Jordan's active role in hosting refugees and for the substantial burdens the Kingdom continues to bear.
