Amman, Feb. 3 (Petra) -- His Majesty King Abdullah II received United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Barham Salih on Tuesday.

During the meeting, His Majesty congratulated Salih on his election last year as high commissioner for refugees, wishing him success in his term of office.

The meeting covered ways to strengthen cooperation between Jordan and the UNHCR, with the King emphasizing the importance of continuing to support communities hosting refugees.

For his part, Salih expressed his appreciation for Jordan’s efforts in hosting refugees and providing them with vital services.

The meeting also covered regional developments, and the importance of facilitating safe and voluntary return mechanisms for Syrian refugees.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, and the accompanying UNHCR delegation attended the meeting.
