17/ RECREEE Board Meets in Amman to Boost Arab Energy Cooperation
Amman, Feb. 3 (Petra) -- The Board of Trustees of the Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RCREEE) held its 29th meeting in Amman to review the center’s latest developments, assess progress in implementing its regional programs and initiatives, and discuss ways to strengthen Arab cooperation in renewable energy and energy efficiency. The two-day event, chaired by Abass Aden Atteyeh, addressed several issues on the center’s work plans and efforts to enhance its role as a "regional umbrella supporting decision-makers and a platform for exchanging expertise." In its statement, the center said the discussions also focused on supporting national policies aimed at accelerating the transition to sustainable energy, in line with member states’ priorities and sustainable development goals. Board members stressed the importance of continued joint Arab action to address growing challenges in the region’s energy sector, particularly in energy transition, carbon emissions reduction, and boosting investments in clean energy projects. They highlighted the center’s "pivotal" role in providing technical and institutional support to member states. During the meeting, Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and Jordan’s board member, Engineer Amani Azzam, announced "Amman Sustainable Energy Week 2026" will be held from May 5-7. Azzam said the event, organized by RCREEE, serves as a "key regional platform for dialogue and knowledge exchange among decision-makers, experts, and the private sector." Azzam added that hosting the board meeting reflects Jordan’s "firm" commitment to support joint Arab action in renewable energy and energy efficiency, enhance expertise exchange and build regional partnerships to promote energy security and sustainable development across the region. The board meeting was preceded by a meeting of the center’s executive committee, chaired by Major General Mohammad Issa, which oversaw preparations and reviewed technical and administrative agenda items ahead of their submission to the board. Concluding the meeting, the board’s chair and members expressed appreciation to Jordan and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources for their hospitality and organization, commending the efforts of all entities that contributed to the event's success. //Petra// NQ
