27/ Minister, JBA talk future public transport projects
Amman, August 20 (Petra) – Minister of Transport, Dr. Nidal Qatamin, on Thursday met with head and members of Jordanian Businessmen Association (JBA) to discuss ways to develop the Kingdom's transport sector and strengthen its role in supporting the national economy. Qatamin noted the importance of the private sector's role as a "key partner" in implementing and developing transport projects. Expressing "keenness" to expand cooperation with the private sector, he said the ministry is also ready to leverage its expertise and capabilities in implementing priority projects, which would add value to Jordan's economy and improve efficiency of the transport system. He reviewed the key projects and programs implemented by the Ministry of Transport across various sectors, its plans for developing infrastructure, public transport services, and logistics. In this context, he referred to future projects aimed at enhancing the sector's efficiency and increasing its capacity to meet needs of economic development, trade, and investment. In turn, the JBA's chairman, Ayman Alawneh, and its members underlined the importance of the transport sector in supporting various economic activities and boosting trade and investment. The JBA team urged continued partnership and coordination with the Ministry of Transport to support projects that would enhance infrastructure and improve efficiency of transportation and logistics services. During the discussions, the two sides went over several issues and investment opportunities related to the transport sector and ways to enhance private sector participation in future projects, aimed to support Jordan's economic development process. Concluding the meeting, the two sides exchanged commemorative plaques in appreciation of the mutual partnership and commitment to continued cooperation and joint work. //Petra// AG
