22/ Amman Municipality Upgrades Downtown Tourist Walkway to Improve Safety, Accessibility

Amman, August 20 (Petra) -- The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) launched on Thursday a maintenance and upgrade project along the Amman Tourist Walkway downtown, as part of a broader effort to revamp the capital's historical and tourism areas.

Work crews are upgrading sidewalks, street lighting, pedestrian crossings, and guardrails to improve safety and accessibility for visitors, said Mohammad Abu Zaitoun, Executive Director of Amman Neighborhoods and Tourist Trails Development Projects.

He noted that GAM, in partnership with the Department of Antiquities and the Jordan Tourism Board, is installing directional signage and QR codes at heritage, historical, and popular sites along the path that allow tourists to instantly access the history and background of each location.

Abu Zaitoun underlined that the initiative forms a "core part" of GAM's strategy to revitalize the historic city center and boost local and international tourism.
