10/ Voluntary Societies Union: Humanitarian Work Pillar of Cohesive Communities

Amman, Aug. 20 (Petra) -- Humanitarian work is an important part of building cohesive communities capable of responding to challenges and reflects the principles of giving and responsibility toward people without discrimination or exclusion, the General Union of Voluntary Societies (GUVS) said.

In a statement on Thursday marking World Humanitarian Day, observed on Wednesday, Union President Amer Khawaldeh said the occasion highlights the values of volunteer and humanitarian work and renews the commitment to supporting people most in need and promoting social solidarity.

Khawaldeh commended the efforts of charitable associations, volunteers and humanitarian workers across the Kingdom who continue to carry out their work and provide support and assistance to families in need, orphans, older persons, people with disabilities, patients and other groups.

He also highlighted the partnership between civil society institutions and the public and private sectors, saying it has contributed to responding to humanitarian and development needs and strengthening social responsibility and joint efforts to serve the country and its people.

Khawaldeh called for continued support for humanitarian and volunteer initiatives, encouraging young people to participate in charitable work and developing programs and projects that contribute to sustainable development and strengthen values of compassion and social solidarity.

He reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to continuing its humanitarian and national mission and working with all partners to serve the community and promote giving in a manner that supports development and preserves human dignity.
