8/ LTRC to launch pilot operation of Amman-Ajloun 'low-fare' route Sunday
Amman, August 15 (Petra) – Land Transport Regulatory Commission (LTRC) will launch the trial operation of the Amman-Ajloun route on Sunday, as part of the second phase of the inter-governorate public transportation development project. In a statement Saturday, LTRC Spokesperson and Director of the Communication and Media Unit, Dr. Abla Weshah, stated the step comes within the framework of expanding implementation of smart transportation systems and improving safety and quality of services provided to passengers. Weshah said the buses operate various technologies, mainly CCTV systems, tracking and e-payment systems. On their impact, she noted that these systems would enhance monitoring, raise security and safety levels within transportation vehicles, and improve operational efficiency and the passenger experience. Weshah added that the service will operate at a fixed fare of JD1.50, as 2,000 free cards will be provided to passengers, which will facilitate movement of citizens between Amman and Ajloun and encourage use of public transportation. She announced the service features 3 main routes during weekdays, covering Amman's main destinations. She noted that the service will work on a regular schedule, as a bus will be operated every 15 minutes during weekdays from 5:15am to 8:15pm, and every 30 minutes during weekends from 6:00 am to 7:00 pm. She affirmed the buses are equipped with e-payment systems, free Wi-Fi, CCTV cameras, and tracking systems. She said introduction of these technologies an "important" step in developing a modern and safe public transportation system that relies on digital solutions and provides a "more regular, reliable, and comfortable service for passengers." She added that the launch of the route's pilot phase comes with the engagement of all relevant authorities and stakeholders in Ajloun governorate. The step, she noted, will secure "operational readiness" and integration of efforts to ensure the service's success and achieve its goals of improving transportation between Ajloun and the capital. //Petra// AG
