19/ Agriculture minister checks on NARC's research, applied projects

Amman, Aug. 13 (Petra) – Minister of Agriculture and Chairman of Board of Directors of National Agricultural Research Center (NARC), Dr. Saeb Khraisat, on Thursday visited the center's headquarters.

During the visit, Khraisat was briefed on the center's work, programs, and research projects, and their role in supporting and developing the Kingdom's agricultural sector and enhancing productivity and sustainability.

Checking on the center's key work and research and applied projects, he was updated on current efforts to harness outputs of scientific research to serve the Kingdom's agricultural sector and support farmers in facing challenges.

The minister also reviewed the mechanism for preserving and documenting plant genetic resources in the National Seed Bank, and efforts made to maintain agricultural biodiversity and protect local varieties, which would enhance food security and the sustainability of agricultural resources.

He underlined the center's "crucial" role in advancing agricultural scientific research and aligning its outputs with the sector's needs.

This effort, he noted, contributes to increasing Jordan's agricultural production efficiency and enhancing "competitiveness" of national products.

On future vision, he called for continuing to develop research programs and expanding partnerships with relevant national and international institutions.

He indicated that the ministry places "remarkable" significance on scientific research and agricultural innovation, as "essential" tools for addressing climate change and water scarcity, and improving integration of modern technologies in the agricultural sector.
