Amman, Aug. 12 (Petra) -- Director of the Prevention and Self-Protection Department, Brig. Gen. Bilal Al-Awamleh affirmed on Wednesday that the modern vision of security management relies on a qualitative shift in utilizing human resources and investing in national talent, noting that empowering women in security work is no longer limited to administrative roles but has become an operational requirement to enhance performance in field and intelligence operations.

Speaking during a strategic workshop for heads of preventive security divisions and departments organized in partnership with UN Women and attended by the agency's representative in Jordan, Nicolas Burniat Al-Awamleh emphasized institutionalizing practices that support women's participation across various security domains.

Al-Awamleh highlighted the importance of integrating female police officers into core specialized security operations, including counterterrorism, based on competence and merit. He noted that this approach expands security coverage, improves community outreach, and enables a more comprehensive, professional assessment of security challenges.

For his part, Burniat praised the effective strategic partnership with the Public Security Directorate (PSD), commending Preventive Security's efforts to empower women in leadership and field roles. He added that these measures reflect institutional progress in implementing the Women, Peace, and Security agenda, strengthening Jordan's standing as a regional model in adopting international best practices.

The session included a brief review of the PSD Gender Mainstreaming Strategy (2026–2028), discussions on the role of the Gender Unit in supporting its institutional rollout, and an overview of the governing legal framework for gender integration in the security sector.

Participants engaged in interactive discussions focusing on the role of security leadership in translating strategic commitments into sustainable practices across preventive security divisions, aligning institutional policy with operational execution.

At the conclusion of the workshop, attendees reaffirmed their commitment to turning gender integration strategies into established institutional practices to enhance intelligence capabilities, proactive readiness, and operational efficiency under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II.

The session aligns with the PSD Gender Mainstreaming Strategy (2026–2028) and national efforts to implement U.N. Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security.
