3/ PM Directs All Official Coordination on 2030 Baptism Commemoration Through National Committee

Amman, Aug. 12 (Petra) -- Prime Minister Jafar Hassan has instructed government and official institutions to channel all correspondence and activities related to the 2030 commemoration of the Baptism of Jesus Christ through the high-level National Committee established for the event.

The directive follows the formation of the National Committee, chaired by the Prime Minister, to oversee preparations for the 2,000th anniversary of the Baptism of Jesus Christ in 2030. The committee is responsible for setting the general policies and directions for the commemoration and supervising planning and preparations for its implementation.

Under the directive, ministries, government departments, public institutions and authorities, public universities, municipalities, the Greater Amman Municipality and government-owned companies are required to coordinate any work related to the commemoration through the National Committee. No separate correspondence or activities related to the event are to be undertaken outside its framework, as the committee serves as the sole national reference for preparations.

The directive highlighted the importance of the commemoration in supporting the Kingdom’s position as a destination for religious tourism, in view of the significance of the Baptism Site and its association with a message of peace.

It also stressed the need to coordinate the efforts of national institutions with local and international partners in developing strategic plans and projects and following up on their implementation.

Hassan chaired the National Committee’s first meeting two days ago to begin preparations for the 2030 commemoration. The committee includes ministers, religious and community leaders, and representatives of relevant entities.
