43/ 117 inmates pass Tawjihi exam, highest success rate recorded in correctional centers

Amman, Aug. 10 (Petra) -- Director of the Public Security Directorate (PSD) Maj. Gen. Obaidallah Al-Maaytah has instructed the director of the Correction and Rehabilitation Centers Department to honor 117 inmates who successfully passed this year's General Secondary Education Certificate (Tawjihi) examination.

Al-Maaytah said the PSD had consistently pursued a comprehensive rehabilitation approach for inmates, helping them continue their lives normally both inside correctional and rehabilitation centers and after their release.

The success of the 117 inmates, including one who achieved a grade average of 92.15%, was a clear indication of the success of educational rehabilitation plans and programs designed for inmates wishing to continue their studies, he said.

Such programs enable inmates to pursue their education while serving their sentences and help them reintegrate into society after leaving correctional and rehabilitation centers and resuming their lives, he added.

The PSD chief expressed his appreciation to all staff of the Correction and Rehabilitation Centers Department for their efforts in implementing rehabilitation policies, particularly educational programs, whose success was demonstrated by the number of inmates who passed this year's examination.

He stressed the need to develop new ways of helping successful inmates continue their education and pursue further academic and vocational training in the future, in cooperation with all relevant authorities.

The pass rate among inmates this year was the highest since Tawjihi examinations began to be held inside correctional and rehabilitation centers. Of the 231 inmates who sat the examination, 117 passed, giving a pass rate of 56%.
