32/ Jordan Football Association adopts VAR to meet AFC requirements

Amman, August 9 (Petra) - The Jordan Football Association's (JFA) decision to officially introduce the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system in domestic competitions boosts local clubs' chances of qualifying for the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Champions League Elite by meeting AFC criteria.

The AFC Professional Football Committee previously updated entry regulations for club competitions, making top-flight domestic VAR implementation mandatory starting with the 2027–2028 season for member associations seeking direct qualification spots.

Former JFA Head of Referees Nasser Darwish stated that implementing VAR is a "critical step" to fulfilling continental requirements. He noted that the JFA and continental tournament contenders already hold the necessary AFC licenses. Fast-tracking the VAR project ahead of the upcoming season ensures regulatory compliance while improving officiating precision and competitive fairness.

National coach Othman Hasanat added that VAR will elevate domestic league standards, prepare local players for international competition, and enhance overall competitive equity, helping clubs remain competitive at the highest levels across Asia.
