28/ Jordan, International Labour Organization talk labor laws, market cooperation

Amman, August 5 (Petra) - President of the Economic and Social Council, Musa Shteiwi, and International Labour Organization (ILO) expert Amin Wreidat explored on Wednesday expanding cooperation on labor market issues.

Shteiwi pointed to the council's role as a national dialogue platform bringing together the government, employers, and workers to build consensus on socioeconomic policies, support decision-making, and promote decent work standards.

He stated the council's eagerness to broaden its partnership with the ILO, leverage international expertise to update labor legislation, and enhance social protection and workplace safety.

Wreidat, who is in Jordan to assess the country's labor inspection, occupational safety, and health systems, lauded the council's efforts to foster social dialogue and involve stakeholders in labor policy discussions.

He said the ILO is committed to supporting the Kingdom's national initiatives to align labor inspection and safety frameworks with international standards.

Both sides agreed to maintain coordination to improve Jordan’s work environment, update labor policies, and boost economic competitiveness and sustainable development.
