36/ Jordan’s residential sector consumes 46% of national energy, official says

Mafraq, April 28 (Petra) -- The residential sector accounts for 46% of Jordan’s total energy consumption, while the industrial sector consumes 17%, according to the head of the country’s renewable energy fund.

Rasmi Hamza, Executive Director of the Jordan Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Fund (JREEEF) at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, disclosed the figures during a workshop held Tuesday at Al al-Bayt University titled "Renewable Energy Horizons in the Region: Toward a Sustainable Future."

Hamza stated that Jordan has achieved significant success in deploying renewable energy projects across residential, industrial, and other sectors. He characterized energy as a primary geopolitical and regional challenge, describing it as the central engine of the global economy.

The official explained that JREEEF was established to rationalize consumption and increase production by leveraging modern technology and artificial intelligence across all sectors.

A key focus of the fund is bridging the gap between university students and the labor market. Hamza announced a new training initiative in partnership with Al al-Bayt University, designed to develop the skills of fourth-year engineering and smart systems students to prepare them for professional careers.

Majed Harahsheh, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the university, said the workshop aligns with Jordan’s national energy efficiency plan. He emphasized that academic institutions play a pivotal role in promoting a culture of resource optimization and preparing a qualified technical workforce to meet market demands.

Bara’a Al-Namrawi, head of the Engineering and Smart Systems Department, highlighted the importance of integrating the Internet of Things (IoT) with smart building systems. She noted that such technological integration is essential for achieving more efficient and sustainable energy management.
