New York, April 27 (Petra) -- Major U.S. stock indices fluctuated on Monday, closing with mixed results as the market struggled to find clear direction and failed to secure significant new gains.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 63 points, or 0.13%, to close at 49,167. Meanwhile, the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite rose 50 points, or 0.2%, to finish the session at 24,887.

The benchmark S&P 500 edged higher, gaining approximately 8 points, or 0.11%, to end at 7,175.
In energy markets, U.S. crude oil prices saw a notable uptick. West Texas Intermediate rose by about $2 to settle at $96.38 per barrel.
