10/ Jordan, Australia Talk Economic, Investment Cooperation

Amman, April 27 (Petra) -- Lower House Economy and Investment Committee Chairman, MP Khaled Abu Hassan, and Australian Ambassador Paula Ganly discussed prospects to boost economic and investment relations.

Abu Hassan pointed to promising natural resources in Jordan as a key foundation for economic growth, and cited major strategic projects under way, including the National Water Carrier and a railway line, as well as key regional projects as real investment opportunities.

These ventures would help bolster the national economy’s ability to achieve sustainable development, he pointed out, calling for broader cooperation with Australia and making greater use of Australia's expertise and investment in such sectors.

Abu Hassan also said Jordan is steadily heading toward strengthening technical and vocational education as a key pillar to develop human resources and address labor market needs. He called for updated training programs and linking these with the requirements of productive sectors.

A focus on this type of education contributes to reducing unemployment, and supports economic development through equipping young people with practical skills needed locally and regionally, said the legislator.

He called for strengthening the trade balance between Jordan and Australia and achieving greater balance through expanding trade exchange, opening new areas for economic cooperation, and benefiting from investment opportunities available in Jordan, particularly in vital sectors, to help attract foreign capital and support economic growth.

He also stressed the importance of building on bilateral relations to develop sustainable economic partnerships, pointing to the need to enhance cooperation in mining and tourism, citing Jordan’s diverse tourism assets, particularly historical, religious, and recreational tourism, as key factors to attract more Australian tourists and reinforce the Kingdom’s position as a distinctive tourist destination.

The Australian envoy said Jordan is attaching clear interest in investment and the economic domain through mega projects and regional partnerships, stressing the importance of benefiting from the investment environment in both countries.
