17/ Justice Minister, UNHCR discuss legal cooperation, anti-trafficking efforts

Amman, April 26 (Petra) -- Justice Minister Bassam Talhouni on Sunday discussed with UNHCR Representative in Jordan Maria Stavropoulou ways to enhance joint legal cooperation.

During the meeting held at the ministry, Talhouni called for building on the existing partnership, commending cooperation with the agency, particularly in supporting the justice sector and strengthening the human rights system.

Talhouni also highlighted joint efforts to implement activities under the National Strategy to Combat Human Trafficking, underscoring the need to launch "systematic" and logistical coordination to ensure complementary efforts in line with international standards.

For her part, Stavropoulou praised Jordan’s efforts, under His Majesty King Abdullah II's leadership, in hosting refugees and assuming the associated economic burdens.

She expressed appreciation for cooperation with the Ministry of Justice in developing anti-trafficking mechanisms.

She also praised the level of mutual coordination as a "positive model" for exchanging expertise and strengthening joint work across sectors.
