Amman, April 26 (Petra) -- Lower House Speaker Mazen Qadi received Turkish Parliament Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Fuat Oktay and an accompanying delegation during an official visit to the Kingdom. According to a Lower House statement issued Sunday, the meeting focused on strengthening relations and expanding parliamentary cooperation in support of the two countries’ shared interests. The two sides emphasized the depth of Jordanian-Turkish relations and the commitment of both countries’ leaderships to further developing ties at various levels, particularly as the two countries approach the 80th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2027. Qadi and Oktay reaffirmed their rejection of any attempts to alter the legal and historical status of Jerusalem and condemned all violations of the sanctity of Al-Aqsa Mosque. They also stressed the importance of the Hashemite Custodianship in safeguarding Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. The two sides underlined the need to reach a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue based on the two-state solution, leading to the establishment of an independent, sovereign, and viable Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital. They also warned against the growing escalation in the West Bank due to the extremist policies of the Israeli government and settlers. Qadi referred to His Majesty King Abdullah’s bestowal of the Order of Al Hussein bin Ali on the Turkish president earlier this year, saying it reflected the depth of the historic ties between the two countries. He also highlighted the importance of the visit of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II to Türkiye last year. He underscored the strength of relations between the two countries’ leaderships, pointing to the shared positions of His Majesty King Abdullah II and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and their mutual commitment to advancing bilateral partnership. Qadi said Jordanian-Turkish political and diplomatic relations continue to develop through high-level reciprocal visits, strengthening coordination on various regional and international issues. For his part, Oktay expressed Türkiye’s appreciation for its level of relations with Jordan, affirming the Turkish Parliament’s keenness to enhance parliamentary cooperation and intensify joint coordination on issues of common interest. He stressed the importance of building on the two countries’ strong historical relations and developing them across various fields, especially amid regional challenges that require greater cooperation and coordination. Oktay also affirmed Türkiye’s support for all efforts aimed at achieving security and stability in the region, stressing the importance of continued Jordanian-Turkish coordination on regional issues, foremost among them the Palestinian cause, in a way that serves the interests of the region’s peoples and contributes to strengthening international security and peace. //Petra// AO
