9/ PDTRA Highlights Strong Jordan–Italy Ties, Focus on Heritage Preservation
Petra, April 23 (Petra) -- The Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority (PDTRA) has reaffirmed the strength of Jordanian-Italian relations, highlighting ongoing cooperation in the preservation of cultural heritage. Chairman of the Authority’s Board of Commissioners Adnan Sawair said Petra represents a global heritage site and a cultural landmark that reflects the convergence of civilizations across history. He stressed the importance of enhancing conservation efforts through maintenance and restoration programs, implemented in cooperation with international partners, to safeguard the site’s historical and cultural value and ensure its sustainability. Sawair said these efforts align with national priorities to strengthen Jordan’s presence on the international stage, supported by King Abdullah II’s approach to expanding cooperation with partner countries. On relations with Italy, he pointed to joint work in heritage conservation, including twinning agreements with Italian sites such as the Colosseum and Barbarano Romano, citing similarities in architectural and rock-carving features. He also highlighted the role of international media in promoting Petra’s historical significance and supporting its position as a global tourism destination. //Petra// RZ
