21/ Minister highlights Jordan's steps to implement UNSCR 2250 on Youth
Amman, April 23 (Petra) – Minister of Youth, Dr. Raed Adwan, on Thursday affirmed the National Youth, Peace, and Security Plan represents an "advanced" national framework that reflects the youth's role in peacebuilding, strengthening social cohesion, and consolidating inclusive governance. Adwan said shifting this plan from vision to effective implementation requires an active partnership with official, national, and international institutions. Adwan's remarks came during his participation in a workshop organized by the Ministry of Youth, in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). During the meeting, liaison officers from UN Security Council Resolution 2250 on Youth, Peace and Security, representing partner institutions involved in implementing the plan, participated. In presence were representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Jordan, Himyar Abdulmoghni, and Director of the Ministry's Youth, Peace and Security Unit, Dr. Muntha Obeidat. Adwan called for translating UN resolution 2250 into action, which was the outcome of efforts of His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II during his chairmanship of the Security Council session in 2015. He stressed the need to orchestrate national efforts in implementing the plan's key pillars, adding that the Ministry will coordinate with all national partners to implement the main pillars under a range of national activities and programs. To achieve this goal, he said institutional frameworks will be developed to ensure sustainability of national efforts in youth, peace, and security issues. Additionally, he noted the Ministry of Youth is working on preparing the National Youth Strategy (2026–2030) as a national framework that promotes empowerment and participation, encompassing peace and security issues as a "key" dimension. This strategy, he stated, stems from awareness of rights and responsibilities as the foundation for building "a more cohesive and stable society." In turn, Abdulmoghni highlighted the "strategic" partnership with the Ministry of Youth to enhance implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2250 through the National Action Plan for Youth, Peace and Security. Abdulmoghni said this partnership aims to ensure evidence-based policies and turn planning into tangible impact on the lives of citizens, particularly young people. //Petra// AG
