17/ Authorities meet to enhance Jordan's transport, trade performance
Amman, April 23 (Petra) – A meeting held Thursday discussed mechanisms for orchestrating national efforts, aimed at developing the Kingdom's transport and trade environment. The event, which was chaired by Mohammad Qaryouti, Director of the Executive Department of Transport and Trade Facilitation Unit, brought together team heads of National Committee for Trade & Transport Facilitation (NCTTF). The meeting was comprised of expert teams from Jordan Customs Department, border crossings, logistics industry, and Aqaba ports, as well as land, air, and maritime transport teams. Discussions focused on ways to enhance integration among these entities to support "efficiency" of logistics services. Held at the Ministry of Transport, the discussions were part of ongoing efforts to improve the Kingdom's ranking in international indicators for the transport and trade sector. The attendees also looked into means to achieve goals of the Economic Modernization Vision, particularly the Logistics Performance Index (LPI) issued by the World Bank, which measures efficiency of supply chains, commodity movement, transport level and customs clearance services. The event addressed the Legatum Prosperity Index, mainly the transport component within the Market Access and Infrastructure pillar. Participants discussed the Kingdom's future ranking targets up to 2033 and the Ministry of Transport's plan to improve this position during the period 2026–2029,. Agreeing on action mechanisms of the technical teams, the step aimed to ensure identification of priority projects and initiatives and develop related procedures, which would raise efficiency of logistics services and enhance the Kingdom's global competitiveness. //Petra// AG
