4/ White Iris Bloom Turns Ajloun into Spring Eco-Tourism Draw

Ajloun, April 22 (Petra) -- A seasonal bloom of white iris flowers is transforming parts of Ajloun into sweeping natural scenes, drawing visitors and photographers and reinforcing the governorate’s appeal as an eco-tourism destination.

The flowers have spread across wide areas, forming a bright white cover that reflects favorable spring conditions and the region’s balanced ecosystem. Local stakeholders say the dense bloomthis year points to healthy environmental indicators and underscores the need for protection.

Abdul Karim Frihat, a member of the "Tourism Brings Us Together" initiative, said the bloom is directly supporting eco-tourism activity, with spring remaining the peak season for domestic visitors seeking mild weather and scenic landscapes.

He added that the white iris has become part of Ajloun’s seasonal identity, supporting tourism promotion and the development of nature-based trails.

Ibtihal Al-Samadi, vice president of the "Nasma Shawq" tourism association, said the phenomenon highlights the region’s biodiversity and called for greater awareness among visitors to avoid picking or damaging the flowers to ensure their sustainability.

She noted that developing eco-tourism requires balancing awareness efforts with improved services to maintain a positive visitor experience without putting pressure on natural resources.

Hashem Shwayat of the "Volunteer Journalists" initiative called for expanded media coverage to promote Ajloun’s natural landscapes, emphasizing the role of awareness in supporting sustainable tourism and environmental protection.
