29/ 15 enterprises to receive EU funding under 'My Community' project- Chatzisavas

Salt, April 22 (Petra) – Al-Balqa Applied University (BAU) on Wednesday celebrated the announcement of the winning enterprises in its "My Community" project.

Organized by the university, the event was attended by BAU President, Dr. Ahmed Ajlouni, and the European Union Ambassador to Jordan, Pierre-Christophe Chatzisavas.

Talking at the ceremony, Ajlouni stated the project embodies the university's "commitment" to supporting sustainable development initiatives and empowering youth.

Ajlouni noted the university is dedicated to strengthening its role as "an applied" educational institution that contributes to preparing a competent generation to innovate and provide feasible solutions that serve their local communities within the framework of the circular economy.

He added that the partnership with the European Union represents an "effective model" of international cooperation in supporting youth-related quality programs, which would build their capacities to enter the job market.

For his part, the EU ambassador noted he had followed the project since its initial stages, extending from signing the agreement through the training phase, expressing his admiration for the outcomes, which "exceeded expectations."

Chatzisavas added that the initial training targeted 300 students, while 400 male and female students from Salt, Aqaba, and Madaba governorates were trained.

The number of submitted community project proposals also increased from 60 to 79, as 30 were picked to advance to the final stage, from which 15 enterprises will be chosen to receive financial support, he pointed out.

In this context, he expressed his confidence the 15 selected projects will be "outstanding" initiatives that will contribute to serving local communities in Salt, Madaba, and Aqaba.

Funded by the European Union and implemented by university, the project aims to empower youth and enhance their role in developing their local communities through innovation and circular economy principles.

Meanwhile, Dr. Omar Arabiyat, Director of the "My Community" project, called for supporting and empowering youth to develop "sustainable" community solutions, based on circular economy principles.

This project aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly axes related to quality education and sustainable cities and communities.
