31/ Environment Minister urges industrial sector to lead green economy transition
Amman, April 21 (Petra) -- Minister of Environment Ayman Suleiman participated in the National Industrial Meeting held at the Jordan Investors Association (JIA) on Tuesday and organized by the Ithmar for Development and Vocational Training (IDVT). The event aimed to bolster national partnerships in support of a green economy and to curb the widespread issue of littering. During the meeting, Suleiman emphasized that Jordan is making steady progress toward adopting a green economy as a strategic choice for sustainable development. He noted that environmental and climate challenges necessitate close cooperation between the public and private sectors, identifying the industrial sector as a key partner in both environmental protection and economic growth. The minister highlighted that his department is actively implementing the executive program for the national hygiene strategy, which seeks to improve the urban landscape and foster positive environmental behaviors. JIA President Mujahid Al-Rajabi affirmed that the industrial sector is an essential part of the solution to environmental challenges. He noted that the association is working to ensure member factories adhere to sustainable practices and support initiatives that improve the industrial environment. Mohammed Abu Zeid, CEO of Ithmar, added that IDVT is focused on building capacity within industrial facilities. He announced plans to develop specialized training programs to help companies meet environmental standards and adopt innovative sustainability solutions. On the sidelines of the event, the Environment Minister visited the Siniora Food Industries Company to review its sustainability efforts. The visit also included an awards ceremony honoring participants in "Environmental Week" and the launch of a campaign to distribute eco-friendly fabric car bags in the industrial city to discourage littering from vehicle windows. The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment to institutionalizing environmental awareness and executing initiatives that support a clean, sustainable, and prosperous green economy in the Kingdom. //Petra// AF
