15/ Irbid Schools Join PIRLS Reading Assessment

Irbid, April 21 (Petra) -- Director of Education for the Taibeh and Wasatiyah districts, Ziad Jarrah, on Tuesday inspected the implementation of the Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS), which targets 82 fourth-grade students from several schools in the two Irbid districts.

According to a directorate statement, Jarrah said during his tour of testing halls at Taibeh Secondary School for Boys that the assessment is part of the Ministry of Education's efforts to measure students' achievement in reading and Arabic-language reading comprehension in line with international standards.

He said the importance of PIRLS lies in its ability to diagnose students' performance levels, allowing education policymakers to use the results to develop study plans, improve learning outcomes, and strengthen students' analytical and comprehension skills.

Jarrah also reviewed the technical and procedural measures in place in computer labs to ensure the test runs smoothly. He praised the efforts of staff from the educational supervision and educational technology departments, liaison officers, and the administrations of the targeted schools, as well as the host schools, for their role in preparing students and adhering to the governing instructions.
