17/ Senate committee okays agreement to develop copper resources in south
Amman, April 20 (Petra) -- The Senate Energy and Mineral Resources Committee, chaired by Senator Farouk Hayari, on Monday approved a draft law ratifying an agreement between the government and Wadi Araba Minerals Company for 2025, as referred by the Lower House of Parliament. The session was attended by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh, Minister of State for Legal Affairs Fayyad Qudah, and Chairperson of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission Ziad Sa'aydeh. Hayari said the agreement is a key step toward enhancing investment in Jordan’s natural resources, particularly copper and associated minerals in the Abu Khashiba area, south of Jordan. He added that the move is expected to support the national economy and strengthen strategic partnerships in line with international best practices. The draft law provides for the ratification of an executive agreement covering the evaluation, development, and exploitation of copper and associated minerals in Abu Khashiba. The agreement, concluded between the government, represented by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, and Wadi Araba Minerals Company, also grants the company a license to conduct exploration, prospecting, development, operation, and production activities, as well as the marketing of extracted minerals. //Petra// AJ
