Abu Dhabi, April 19 (Petra) -- British Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper reaffirmed the United Kingdom's unwavering commitment to its Gulf allies during a meeting with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.

According to a statement from the British Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, Cooper’s official visit focused on strengthening the strategic partnership between the UK and the UAE to serve mutual interests.

The discussions addressed regional security challenges following recent escalations, with both officials reviewing the implications of the conflict on international maritime safety and global energy supplies. Cooper emphasized the urgent need for intensified diplomatic efforts to secure a lasting peaceful resolution to ongoing hostilities and to ensure the protection of international freedom of navigation.

Sheikh Abdullah expressed his appreciation for the visit, noting that it reflects the distinguished bilateral relations and embodies the UK's solidarity with the UAE in safeguarding its sovereignty and regional stability.

The meeting comes amid broader international efforts to support recent ceasefire announcements in the Middle East and to restore confidence in global shipping routes.
