24/ Jordanian Senator nominated to represent Arab Group at Inter-Parliamentary Union
Amman, April 18 (Petra) -- The Arab Group in the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) has nominated Senator Mahasin Al-Jaghoub to represent the region on a key committee for the fourth time. Al-Jaghoub, who chairs the National Youth Dialogue Committee in the Senate, was selected to join the drafting committee for the IPU’s emergency item. The nomination took place on the sidelines of the 152nd IPU General Assembly currently being held in Istanbul, Turkiye, according to a Senate statement released on Saturday. The General Assembly, which includes representatives from 177 national parliaments, adopted an emergency resolution titled "the urgent need for concerted parliamentary efforts to preserve ceasefires and support peacebuilding in the Middle East and other regions." The item received broad support across various geopolitical groups. The drafting committee plays a critical role in developing a consensus text, bridging differences between various international positions to produce a balanced framework. Once finalized, the document serves as an international parliamentary reference. The Senate statement noted that Al-Jaghoub’s nomination reflects growing international recognition of Jordan’s role in building consensus within the global parliamentary system. It further highlighted the kingdom’s commitment to balanced approaches based on international law, human rights, and the protection of civilians. The nomination underscores Jordan’s active influence in international parliamentary forums, where its advocacy for a just peace and sustainable political solutions continues to gain momentum in global decision-making processes. //Petra// AF
