Amman, April 15 (Petra) – A public opinion poll released on Wednesday by the Centre for Strategic Studies at the University of Jordan revealed that more than half of Jordanians believe the country is moving in a positive direction.

According to the poll, conducted a year and a half into Prime Minister Jafar Hassan's government, the optimism among Jordanians is attributed to several factors, most notably the security, safety and stability that Jordan enjoys (68%), as well as a perceived tangible improvement in overall conditions.

The results showed that 62% of the national sample believe the government has been able to shoulder its responsibilities after a year and a half in office, compared to 61% in a poll conducted one year after the government's formation.

Sixty-four per cent of respondents stated that Hassan has been capable of handling the responsibilities of this period, compared to 55% in the 100-day poll and 57% at the time of the government's formation.

Fifty-six per cent said that the ministerial team (excluding the Prime Minister) has been capable of managing responsibilities after a year and a half in office, compared to 47% in the 100-day survey and 50% in the initial survey.

Among opinion leaders, 69% believed the government was capable of handling its responsibilities after a year and a half in office, compared to 58% one year after formation, 64% in the 200-day survey and 52% in the initial survey.

The findings indicated that 64% of respondents believed the Prime Minister was capable of handling responsibilities during the first year and a half of his government, compared to 55% in the 100-day survey and 57% in the initial survey.

Among opinion leaders, 75% expressed confidence in the Prime Minister's ability to manage the current phase, compared to 67% after one year, 75% in the 200-day survey and 55% at the time of formation.

Sixty per cent of opinion leaders indicated that the ministerial team (excluding the Prime Minister) was capable of handling responsibilities after a year and a half in office, compared to 51% after one year, 54% in the 200-day survey, 55% in the 100-day survey and 45% in the initial survey.

The poll revealed that 58% of Jordanians have been following the government's actions since its formation, while 90% of opinion leaders reported closely tracking its performance.

Trust in the government remains relatively strong, with 66% of Jordanians and 67% of opinion leaders expressing confidence.

A significant majority of the national sample (61%) strongly agreed with the statement: "The government is doing everything it can to provide citizens with all services." 60% of opinion leaders shared this view.

The survey showed that 51% of the national sample and 52% of opinion leaders believe the government listens to Jordanians' feedback.

Public support for the Prime Minister's field visits remains high, with 83% of respondents backing these tours. Respondents indicated that such visits help them stay informed about conditions across the Kingdom and the government to maintain direct contact with people, better understand their concerns and assess challenges firsthand to develop effective solutions.

In terms of institutional trust, confidence in security agencies remained exceptionally high, with 99% of Jordanians expressing trust in the various security services. Overall, trust in several governmental, legislative and political institutions was either stable or showed improvement.

Regarding the government's school transport project for students in southern regions, 59% of Jordanians reported being aware of the initiative, which was launched on March 17, 2026 and is scheduled for implementation in August 2026.

Two-thirds of respondents (66%) believe the project would significantly reduce school dropout rates.

Eighty-one per cent believe that providing modern, monitored buses would encourage parents especially of girls to send their children to schools in remote areas.

Sixty-five per cent of respondents said the project should remain free of charge, with the government covering all associated costs.

On the proposed new Local Administration Law, 54% of respondents in the national sample and 43% of opinion leaders supported appointing mayors instead of electing them.

At the same time, 55% of the national sample and 43% of opinion leaders supported maintaining the existing governorate councils under decentralisation.

The poll found that 69% of respondents were "highly satisfied" with the government's stance on recent regional escalations, reflecting a broader sense of approval of its position on regional conflicts.

Among opinion leaders, the results showed that His Majesty King Abdullah II's recent tour of the UAE, Bahrain, Qatar and Saudi Arabia had a significant positive impact on Jordan's relations with these countries.

A total of 86.5% of respondents (68.4% "very significant" and 18.1% "significant") agreed on the tour's positive impact.

Opinion leaders identified strengthening regional security as the primary objective of the King's visits to Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, with this option receiving the highest support (58.3%).

The poll showed that 72.5% of respondents described Jordan's role in promoting regional diplomacy as "very important."

The survey also showed varied views on security cooperation between Jordan and GCC countries. Overall, 76.4% of respondents considered this cooperation sufficient to address regional challenges, with differing levels of confidence (24.6% high, 34.2% moderate and 17.6% low).

The results indicated strong confidence in Jordan's ability to confront regional challenges, with 60.7% of opinion leaders expressing high confidence.

The assessment of the government's efforts to enhance internal security and stability was notably positive, with 56.9% rating the efforts as "very good" and 33.5% as "good," bringing the total positive assessment to 90.4%.
