23/ Jordanian, Spanish Business Leaders Explore Revitalizing Joint Council
Amman, April 15 (Petra) -- Chairman of the Jordanian Businessmen Association (JBA) Ayman Alawneh and Spanish Embassy Economic and Commercial Attaché Victor Suanzes on Wednesday discussed reactivating the Jordanian-Spanish Business Council to strengthen economic and trade cooperation between the two countries. Alawneh stressed the importance of revitalizing the council, which was established in 1994 as an effective platform for strengthening partnerships between the private sectors in both countries in line with economic developments and the interests of the shared business community. He stressed the need to capitalize on the partnership agreement with the European Union and come up with a joint action program to increase Jordanian exports to the Spanish market and attract more Spanish investment to Jordan, given its investment climate and competitive incentives. He also called for strengthening communication between Jordanian businesspeople and their Spanish counterparts, and organizing joint meetings and economic events to open new avenues for cooperation and the exchange of expertise. For his part, Suanzes said his country is committed to strengthening economic cooperation with Jordan, noting opportunities to expand trade and increase investment, particularly in renewable energy, tourism, and infrastructure, and stressing the importance of rejuvenating the council to serve the economic interests of both countries. Trade between Jordan and Spain reached about $460 million in 2023, with Jordanian exports mainly inorganic chemicals, fertilizers, and mineral fuels and oils, according to the JBA. //Petra// AO
