Amman, April 13 (Petra) -- The Department of Statistics said remained broadly stable during the first two months of 2026, recording a marginal and statistically insignificant decline of 0.5 percent compared with the same period in 2025.

According to the department’s monthly report, the Industrial Production Index edged down by 0.72 percent in February 2026 on a year-on-year basis. On a monthly basis, the index declined by 2.19 percent compared with January of the same year.

The report noted that the base year for the index has been revised to 2018=100, replacing the previous base year of 2010=100.

Cumulative data showed the industrial production index reached 87.58 points in the first two months of 2026, compared with 87.62 points in the corresponding period of 2025. For February alone, the index stood at 86.61 points, down from 87.24 points in February 2025 and 88.55 points in January 2026.

At the sub-sector level, the manufacturing sector, which accounts for 88.7 percent of total industrial output, recorded a slight decline of 0.26 percent during the reporting period. Electricity production, representing 5.9 percent, decreased by 0.41 percent, while the mining and quarrying sector, with a 5.4 percent share, posted a 4.79 percent increase.

On a year-on-year basis for February, the overall decline was driven by a 0.27 percent contraction in manufacturing output and a sharp 9.84 percent drop in electricity production, while mining and quarrying activity rose by 2.31 percent.

On a month-on-month basis, manufacturing output registered a marginal increase of 0.03 percent in February compared with January. In contrast, mining and quarrying output declined by 15.22 percent, and electricity production fell by 20.51 percent over the same period.
