  8/ FM, EU’s Kaja Kallas Discuss immediate Ceasefire Efforts in Lebanon

Amman, Apr. 10 (Petra)-- Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign and Expatriates Affairs, Ayman Safadi, in a phone call, discussed with the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, ongoing efforts to reach an immediate ceasefire in Lebanon and halt the dangerous escalation across the region.

During the call, the two officials reviewed coordination efforts to deliver urgent humanitarian assistance to Lebanon, aimed at supporting the Lebanese government in addressing the needs of more than one million displaced people who have been forced to leave their homes amid the ongoing crisis.

Safadi stressed the need for an immediate end to Israeli aggression, and reaffirmed support for Lebanon’s government in its efforts to assert sovereignty over all its territory and ensure that weapons remain exclusively under state control.

The discussions also touched on the ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, where Safadi emphasized the importance of building on the agreement to achieve a comprehensive settlement that addresses the root causes of regional tensions.

He underscored the need to uphold international law, respect the sovereignty of states, and ensure freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.

Both Safadi and Kallas reaffirmed continued coordination in efforts to end regional escalation and promote security and stability in the Middle East.
