3/ Aqaba: Leading Model in Health Awareness, Service Quality

Aqaba, April 7 (Petra) -- As the world marks World Health Day, Aqaba is drawing attention for its growing role in promoting a culture of prevention and health awareness through strong collaboration between public institutions and the local community.

Health officials in Aqaba are placing increasing focus on encouraging healthier lifestyles and improving access to quality care, with a broad approach that blends medical services, education, and community engagement.

According to Dr. Saba Al-Shreideh, Director of Aqaba Health Directorate, efforts are centered on strengthening essential healthcare services while expanding programs that directly impact people’s daily lives. These include primary care, vaccinations, maternal and child health, and ongoing support for patients with chronic conditions such as diabetes and high blood pressure. Preventive screenings, school health initiatives, and environmental health monitoring also form a key part of the strategy.

A strong emphasis is being placed on prevention, not only by addressing infectious diseases but also by tackling long-term health risks. This aligns with the broader national vision of creating a healthier and more resilient society. Community partnerships play a crucial role in this effort, with local health committees working alongside officials to spread awareness and encourage positive behavioral change.

Public outreach remains a cornerstone of these initiatives. Awareness campaigns take place both inside healthcare facilities and in public spaces, using a mix of seminars, printed materials, and digital platforms to reach a wide audience. Social media, in particular, has become an important tool for sharing health information quickly and effectively.

To further strengthen engagement, community health clinics within major centers are being utilized to provide tailored guidance to visitors. At the same time, authorities are working closely with local organizations to better understand the population’s needs through surveys and data analysis, allowing them to design more targeted and impactful programs.

The directorate also continues to organize free medical days and participate in national and international health campaigns, including those focused on diabetes, breast cancer, and smoking prevention. These efforts aim to keep health issues at the forefront of public attention throughout the year.

Promoting prevention as a way of life remains a central goal. Healthcare workers are receiving specialized training in health promotion, while community representatives are being equipped with the skills needed to mobilize support and build effective partnerships.

Digital transformation is also reshaping healthcare delivery in Aqaba. The adoption of electronic medical records through the "Hakeem" system, along with online appointment booking and e-payment services, has streamlined procedures, reduced waiting times, and improved the accuracy of health data. These advancements are helping both patients and providers navigate the system more efficiently.

Through these combined efforts, Aqaba is steadily building a more informed and health-conscious community, in line with national priorities to enhance healthcare quality and promote long-term well-being.
