16/ Industry ministry issues 1,101 market violations in March
Amman, April 2 (Petra) –Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply issued 1,101 violations against establishments for non-compliance with provisions of the Industry and Trade Law and related legislation during March. These irregularities covered several aspects, most notably 922 violations for failing to display prices of goods. In a statement issued Thursday, the ministry said its Market Control Directorate addressed 399 complaints received from citizens through market inspectors deployed nationwide and took the necessary measures to resolve these cases, which reflects "speed of response and oversight effectiveness." The statement added that inspection teams conducted 1,353 tours through 21,891 visits to commercial entities in various governorates to ensure their compliance with applicable regulations and instructions. The ministry noted that the Market Control Directorate also continues to implement provisions of the Industry and Trade Law No. 18 of 1998, which seeks to monitor availability and prices of basic food commodities. Verifying price display and compliance, the ministry also monitors swholesale inventory, addresses any practices related to hoarding or refusal to sell goods, and oversees sales and promotional offers. The ministry affirmed continuation of its monitoring campaigns to ensure market stability and consumer protection.
