20/ Justice Minister, PSD Director Discuss Judicial, Security Cooperation
Amman, Sept. 17 (Petra)-- Minister of Justice Bassam Talhouni said cooperation between the Ministry of Justice and the Public Security Directorate (PSD) constitutes "a cornerstone" for upholding the rule of law and safeguarding rights and freedoms, as a national partnership that serves justice and protects society. In a press statement on Wednesday, Talhouni said his visit to the PSD and meeting with its Director, Maj. Gen. Obeidallah Maaytah, marked an "important" step to reinforce joint coordination, make access to justice easier for citizens, and strengthen public trust in state institutions. The meeting addressed ways to enhance cooperation in judicial enforcement and management of Jordan's correction and rehabilitation centers. Talhouni noted such efforts improve services provided to citizens and ease their burdens under "more efficient and fair litigation procedures." Praising the PSD’s efforts in combating crime and protecting society, he noted these efforts reflect its commitment to safeguarding both national security and human rights. Talhouni also highlighted ongoing work to enhance joint action by deploying "advanced" technological tools, including remote trial services and electronic linkages, to save time and effort and ensure fair and transparent access to justice. He valued the PSD’s "commitment" to providing legal and technical services for inmates at correction and rehabilitation centers to ensure their right to fair trial and embody Jordan’s humanitarian approach to preserving human dignity. The minister affirmed the ministry's complementary relations with the PSD will remain a "model of effective national partnership that strengthens societal security and upholds the state’s principles of justice, fairness, and protection of rights." //Petra// AO
