35/ UJ Launches AI Week With Over 450 Participants

Amman, Sept 14 (Petra) – The University of Jordan (UJ) on Sunday inaugurated Artificial Intelligence Week, the largest event of its kind in the country, organized by the King Abdullah II School of Information Technology in cooperation with the UJ Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (UJIEC) and the university’s student branch of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

More than 450 students, academics and professionals from various universities and sectors are taking part.

The event aims to explore applications of artificial intelligence, strengthen collaboration between academia and industry, inspire innovation, and empower youth to transform theory into practical solutions. It also seeks to open communication channels among students, academics, experts and industry leaders.

Day one of the five-day program featured a series of specialized training workshops. A session led by the university’s Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation on building successful hackathon projects introduced participants to creative methods, teamwork approaches, and ways to integrate AI with rapid prototyping to develop impactful projects. Another workshop on "AI Prompt Engineering" highlighted advanced techniques for crafting effective prompts to improve AI outputs in real-world applications.

The second and third days will focus on digital security applications using AI, during which participants will build a facial-recognition-based authentication system and integrate it into an application of their choice.

On the fourth day, a conference sponsored by UJ President Nathir Obeidat will bring together experts and academics to discuss the state of AI, its role in entrepreneurship, integration with data and the Internet of Things to enhance competitiveness, the future of human-AI relations, and responsible use of AI technologies.

The week will conclude with site visits to leading companies and centers in the field, reflecting the transition of AI from academic debate to practical, real-world application.
