20/ Amman mayor inspects progress on Phase 3 of "Al-Mahatta Beautification" project

Amman, Sept 13 (Petra) – Head of the Greater Amman Municipality Committee, Dr. Yousef Shawarbeh, on Saturday inspected progress on Phase 3 of the Amman Neighborhood Development Project, known as "Al-Mahatta Beautification."

Accompanied by Acting City Director Nabil Al-Jariri, Shawarbeh was briefed by project executive director Mohammad Abu Zeitoun on works along Al-Jaish Street, including traffic upgrades, the addition of a fourth lane, stormwater and sewage infrastructure improvements, and the replacement of deteriorating retaining walls with pre-cast structures designed to enhance safety and aesthetics.

Shawarbeh emphasized the project’s strategic importance given its location on a main road and as one of the capital’s gateways for visitors arriving from Queen Alia International Airport. He urged the timely completion of works and continuous follow-up.

Meeting with members of the Al-Mahatta residents’ committee, Shawarbeh said the municipality will provide housing allowances for buildings slated for removal in future phases (4 and 5), which involve expansion of Rfifan Al-Majali Street and the upper road adjacent to Al-Jaish Street.

Abu Zeitoun said Phase 3 also includes new model fences, sidewalks, lighting works, electronic billboards, green spaces, tree planting, and new pedestrian bridges and crossings. The phase, carried out with a specialized consultant, is expected to conclude before the end of the month, including resurfacing of Al-Jaish Street.

The project covers 700 meters of Al-Jaish Street. Two earlier phases delivered a park and sports field, while upcoming stages will expand Rfifan Al-Majali Street and the upper Al-Jaish road by clearing encroachments, reorganizing traffic, and enhancing access as part of developing one of Amman’s key gateways.
