16/ Jordan, Saudi Arabia Discuss Stronger Industrial, Trade Ties

Amman, Sept 13 (Petra) – Jordan Chamber of Industry President Fathi Al-Jaghbir on Saturday stressed the importance of strengthening economic relations between Jordan and Saudi Arabia to spur growth in both countries, reflecting their solid political ties and deep-rooted social bonds, while maximizing the benefits of free trade agreements.

Speaking during a meeting with a delegation from the Tabuk Chamber of Commerce, Al-Jaghbir said Arab economic relations should be based on mutual interests, noting that current bilateral trade is concentrated in a limited number of goods and does not reflect the industrial diversity in either country.

He highlighted that Jordan imports many raw materials for its industries from Saudi Arabia, particularly in the plastics sector, which creates opportunities for greater industrial integration.

Nather bin Al-Hassan Al-Hakami, head of the Industrial Committee at the Tabuk Chamber, said Tabuk’s proximity to the Jordanian border makes it well-suited for establishing logistics-based industries serving both countries. He also pointed to the potential benefits of using Aqaba Port as a maritime gateway for importing raw materials and exporting finished products.

The two sides discussed a number of issues and proposals aimed at deepening bilateral cooperation in economic and investment fields. They agreed to arrange a visit by a Jordanian industrial delegation to Tabuk to continue the talks.

As part of the visit, the Amman Chamber organized a tour for the Saudi delegation at the Saudi-Jordanian Industrial Development Company (Jordina). Company director Mohammad Al-Okdeh presented an overview of its products, while the delegation praised the advanced level of Jordan’s industrial sector and Jordina’s role in empowering local talent and achieving excellence in food industries.
