11/ Transformer station, service center open to enhance electric grid
Amman, Sept 13 (Petra) -- Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Saleh Kharabsheh Saturday inaugurated a new transformer station in downtown Amman and an advanced customer service center in Russeifa district, part of the Jordan Electric Power Company (JEPCO). These will enhance the electricity grid to accommodate rising energy demand and expand communication with subscribers to ensure more efficient services. Kharabsheh said the inauguration of the "qualitative" projects underlines collaboration among sector stakeholders to meet citizens' needs quickly and efficiently and maintain a stable national electricity system and enhanced energy security. Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) Chairman Ziad Sa'aideh said the commission regularly monitors the implementation of the sector's operational and technical plans and is committed to integrating roles with companies to ensure reliable supply, improve service quality, and promptly respond to any challenges in electricity loads. JEPCO General Manager Hassan Abdullah said the power company is proceeding with a strategic plan to expand existing stations, establish new transformer stations, modernize the network, and enhance its operational efficiency. Furthermore, it is to provide advanced service centers that enhance communication with subscribers and meet a constant rise in demand. At the just-completed transformer station in downtown Amman, the energy minister was briefed on facilities and technical components, and its pivotal role in enhancing the reliability of the network and improving the quality of service in the capital and surrounding areas. The projects that have been launched by JEPCO since last year include construction of 19 main transformer stations to serve the four central governorates (Amman, Zarqa, Madaba, and Balqa), at a total cost of about JD80 million. These are expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The projects will help reduce technical losses, increase the grid's efficiency, and secure additional load capacities to meet a rising use of air conditioning and heating devices and electric vehicles. //Petra//SS
