36/ IMCTC concludes media counter-terror workshop in Amman
Amman, Sep.11 (Petra) – The training workshop, themed: "The Role of Traditional and Modern Media in Promoting Societal Awareness to Prevent Terrorism," concluded on Thursday. Organized by the Islamic Military Counter Terrorism Coalition (IMCTC), the initiative brought together a select group of journalists and media professionals and officers from the Jordanian Armed Forces (JAF), aimed to enhance the media's role in combating extremist ideology. In a speech delivered during the closing ceremony, Director of JAF Military Media, Brig. Gen. Mustafa Hiyari, noted the IMCTC has proven, since its inception, to be a "strategic platform for exchanging expertise and unifying discourse, rather than merely a coordination framework among member states." Hiyari added that the IMCTC works to promote concepts to safeguard societies from slipping into extremism and violence. Hiyari said the IMCTC "successfully consolidated the role of traditional and digital media as a central tool in building awareness, shaping public opinion, and dismantling extremist discourses that thrive on ignorance and misinterpretation of religious texts." As part of the activities, a film was screened, focusing on the key media experiences and milestones in combating terrorism and reviewing the participants' efforts, which reflect the importance of responsible media as a pillar in combating extremism in all its forms. The event, held in the Jordanian capital, Amman, represents a "strategic" opportunity to exchange expertise and develop effective media strategies that contribute to protecting societies from terrorism dangers. Additionally, it reflects the importance of strengthening regional and international partnerships, in line with the IMCTC's goals of supporting capabilities of member states and expanding the horizons of coordination and joint cooperation. //Petra// AG
