53/ UN, humanitarian agencies call for protection of civilians from forced displacement in Gaza

Gaza, Sept 10 (Petra) – The humanitarian task force in the occupied Palestinian territories, comprising around 15 UN agencies and 200 NGOs, issued a statement on Wednesday, calling for an immediate ceasefire and protection of civilians from forced displacement in Gaza, warning that there is no longer any safe place in the city.

The statement highlighted a severe escalation in Gaza City, where Israeli forces intensified operations and ordered all residents to move south, following more than two weeks of confirmed famine conditions in the city and surrounding areas.

The task force noted that although Israeli authorities designated a southern area as "humanitarian," no effective measures have been taken to ensure the safety of those forced to relocate. The available services remain insufficient for both current and newly displaced populations, leaving nearly one million people without safe or viable options in the absence of security in northern and southern Gaza.

UN agencies and their partners called for expanded humanitarian access, including direct routes to the north and south, and confirmed their commitment to remain in Gaza as long as possible to provide life-saving assistance and services. They urged the international community to demand an immediate ceasefire and respect for international humanitarian law, including the release of detainees and hostages.
