22/ Senate 'Palestine Committee' decries Israeli strike on Qatar

Amman, Sept 10 (Petra) – The Senate's Palestine Committee on Wednesday strongly condemned the "brutal" Israeli aggression on the Qatari capital, Doha.

"This aggression is a dangerous escalation, as it targeted another Arab country, in a series of blatant acts of aggression against the sovereignty of states and their citizens, and tampering with the region," it said in a statement.

The attack is a flagrant violation of all international laws and norms, and a direct threat to regional and international security and peace, the committee said through its chairman, Senator Mazen Darwazeh.

"This cowardly terrorist attack, once again, reveals the belligerent face of the occupation, which does not hesitate to target civilians and innocent people, and expand the circle of war to other sister Arab countries, in a desperate attempt to impose a fait accompli through fire and destruction," it said.

The committee reaffirmed its full solidarity with the "sisterly" State of Qatar, its leadership, government, and people, and valued the Gulf Arab state's "honorable" stances in support of the Palestinian cause and the just rights of the Palestinian people.

It also commended Doha's mediation and diplomatic efforts to end the war on Gaza, warning that undermining Qatar is undermining Arab national security as a whole.

The panel called on the international community to shoulder its responsibility in halting the Israeli aggression, exerting immediate pressure to deter the occupation (authority), and holding it accountable for its recurrent crimes that jeopardize regional and global stability.

It also reiterated that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, will persist in rejecting all forms of aggression against "our Arab brothers", and continue to champion pan-Arab causes, foremost among them is the Palestinian issue, and stand by every Arab effort to safeguard security, stability, and human dignity.
