Amman, Sept. 10 (Petra)--Lower House Public Services and Transport Committee, chaired by MP Ayman Badadwah, on Wednesday discussed ways to support and develop the Kingdom's transport sector.

The meeting was attended by Minister of Transport Nidal Qatamin, Land Transport Regulatory Commission Director General Riad Kharabsheh, Jordan Tourism Board Director General Abdulrazzaq Arabiyat, Royal Jordanian Airlines CEO Samer Majali, Dallas Travel and Tourism's CEO Amjad Maslamani, and representatives of local airlines.

Badadwah underlined the committee’s "commitment" to defending citizens’ rights and monitoring implementation of plans and projects to improve transport services, calling for strengthening legislation that supports the sector's workers and address their challenges.

Committee members, including MPs Abdulraouf Rabihat, Mustafa Amawi, Moataz Abu Rumman, Taysir Adwan, Tareq Bani Hani, Jihad Madanat, Mahjam Suqour, Zuhair Khashman, and Nabil Shishani, went over sectoral challenges and ways to enhance service quality for citizens.

Qatamin outlined key government plans to develop the public transport system.

Arabiyat stressed role of air transport in supporting tourism activity and presented proposals to strengthen the capacities of national airlines with adequate financial allocations.

Majali highlighted major challenges facing the national aviation sector, emphasizing the need for a supportive regulatory environment to improve flight operations and passenger services.

Maslamani proposed launching charter flights to new markets such as Pakistan and Kazakhstan to enhance tourism and economic cooperation.

In turn, representatives of local airlines stressed the need to address core issues such as fuel costs and aircraft insurance, noting the competition with heavily subsidized regional carriers. They commended the support and coordination with the Jordan Tourism Board as a positive step for the sector.

Concluding the meeting, the committee urged steps to follow up on recommendations related to investment companies, particularly regarding fuel, through specialized meetings with relevant bodies.

The committee also underlined the need to maintain dialogue on medical tourism in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport and other stakeholders to support the sector and strengthen its contribution to citizens and the national economy.
