47/ Lower house expresses solidarity with Qatar after Israeli strike on Doha
Amman, Sept 9 (Petra) – Lower house speaker Ahmad Safadi on Tuesday voiced solidarity with Qatar, sending a message of support to Qatari Shura Council speaker Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim. In a statement, Safadi condemned Israel’s "treacherous bombardment" of the Qatari capital Doha, calling it a blatant violation of international law and a cowardly assault on the sovereignty of a fellow Arab state. "We in Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, stand united with our brothers in Qatar. The security of sisterly Qatar is part of Jordan’s security, and its sovereignty is a red line that we will not allow to be crossed," Safadi said. He added that amid repeated Israeli violations across the region, the strike on Doha represented "a new face of disdain for international law and a dangerous provocation that requires a responsible Arab stance and a collective position to curb Israeli excesses." Safadi said the lower house, echoing King’s call for intensified Arab efforts to mobilize international pressure to halt Israeli violations, was urging a unified Arab parliamentary response and outreach to international legislatures to take a firm stand. He also denounced remarks by the Israeli Knesset speaker, who reportedly boasted of the attack on Qatar, saying such conduct exposed "state terrorism by the occupying power and the criminal mindset driving its institutions." Safadi affirmed that the lower house was fully prepared to coordinate with Arab parliaments, foremost among them the Qatari Shura Council, to take effective parliamentary steps at the regional and international levels. //Petra// AF
