Amman, Sept. 9 (Petra) – A joint Senate committee comprising the Health, Environment, Population, and the Tourism and Heritage committees on Tuesday discussed ways to develop medical tourism and enhance Jordan’s position as a leading regional destination in the sector.

The meeting, chaired by Health Committee head Senator Yassin Husban and attended by Tourism Committee head Senator Michael Nazzal, highlighted Jordan’s advanced healthcare system, skilled medical staff, and natural therapeutic sites such as the Dead Sea and mineral springs.

Husban stressed the need for an integrated national strategy, medical attachés in embassies, updated quality standards, and a comprehensive database. Nazzal underlined the economic importance of medical tourism and the need to link healthcare with tourism services to provide an integrated visitor experience.

Committee members discussed challenges, including pricing policies, ethics, external promotion, simplified procedures for patients, workforce development, and updated legislation for private hospitals. They also pointed to the importance of digital transformation, smart marketing, and preparing qualified tourism cadres to serve international patients.
